~SLD Nahar~

The first model horse created for Ball-Jointed Dolls. His name, "Nahar" comes from one of my favorite characters in Tolkien mythology, the divine mount of Oromë the Great Hunter and Tamer of Beasts. It was said that at the sound of his golden hooves the mountains echoed and the shadows of evil fled away. I've also been told that "Nahar" means "snort" in Arabic which is perfectly fitting to his engaging personality.

A strong support and display piece for your beloved resins that coordinates with their unique aesthetic and style, SLD Nahar was lovingly sculpted and reproduced in white resin to be customized however you imagine your dream horse to be. The model itself stands like a rock. You can be confident that it will not easily be toppled over and harm your doll in any way. He can be simply painted as he is or you can easily sand off the sculpted mane and tail to add on a hair mane and tail. With a gesso primer undercoat you can use any media you like to bring to life a dapple grey Arab, a golden palomino, a leopard appaloosa or maybe a turquoise piebald fantasy horse. I look forward to see how creative doll owners will customize SLD Nahar.

This impressive art piece stands 27" from floor to ear tip. Length from nose to farthest end of tail is 30". The actual 1/3 scale makes for a large 16 hand riding horse for regular 60 cm bjds that also works well with the new larger dolls on the market. His legs are reinforced with steel for strength. The original sculpture of SLD Nahar has taken 2 1/2 years of work to complete what I envisioned for my own dolls. It was very important to me that BJD collectors have a horse available to them that combined a stylized Asian Ball-Jointed Doll aesthetic with correct conformation and anatomy.

The resin casts of this sculpture are being produced by the team at Resins by Randy, located in idyllic Atascadero, CA. Deb and Randy Buckler have been in the business of reproducing award-winning horse and fantasy models for over 25 years. After careful research, calls and emails to several resin-casting businesses I chose Resins by Randy as the ones to collaborate with on this project. Their reputation in their field is excellent for quality, honesty, customer service, attention to detail and competitive pricing. These points made it easy for me to choose this couple to reproduce SLD Nahar for you, the serious collector of ABJDs.
